Musings from a foodie…
Over the years, I’ve developed a fondness for certain types of cuisines that are often difficult to find here in the USA. Specifically, I have quite an affection for Greek, Asian, and Indian cuisines. During my formative years as an international consultant, I could placate these desires due to my travels to those countries on a regular basis. But now that I’m essentially tied to the wonderful (and I mean it) ambiance of Maine, it is more difficult to quench those international tastes. I’ve succeeded on the Indian front, and my Greek desires are most often solved through home cooking. But the Asian quest lingers…
A new Thai restaurant – FIVE81°NE (★★★★★★) recently opened across the river from my home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. There are multiple Thai restaurants in the region, but there are NONE like FIVE81°NE!! I was very pleasantly surprised. Actually, more than pleasantly. This is the best Thai food I’ve had in a very long time. While I don’t want to be a regional snob, the East Coast – in my experience – is not an upscale Thai food location. That could be reserved for the West Coast…but I digress. If you check out the menu here you will see the presentations I experienced, and the taste was equally wonderful!! In fact, I shared with our waitress, who was quite curious about our take, that it was “the best Thai restaurant I’d visited in a very long, long time. And, it was. I can hardly wait to return. Everything we tried was absolutely wonderful, along with the presentations, the ambiance, and the staff.
