Books and Articles worth a Review…
AI and Healthcare Jobs – In the short-term, I think that AI/ML will not replace physicians, nurses, and other health care providers on the care delivery front. However, short-term means about 5 years. Over that period, AI/ML will undergo rapid, escalating evolution and – no doubt, will begin to impact care delivery in some substantial ways. Take a look at the recent report from the World Economic Forum that outlines those professions and jobs categories at highest risk of replacement. To the extent that we rely upon “AI and Big Data Analysis” to assist us in care delivery, there is a vulnerability, but the other areas are outside of our realm. But, again, over the next five years, I’m increasingly convinced that this chart will change. As an advocate that we need to consider AI/ML as a component of “clinically augment intelligence” – I do believe that certain aspects of care delivery will be replaced through the effective use of technology. However, there is nothing – at the moment – that can replace a warm, reach across the cold space of an exam room with more effectiveness than the touch of a hand – as just one example. People will always need people and I don’t think I’m being naïve. Any thoughts appreciated…
