The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly - 10/28/25

The ongoing saga… 

The Great – Hmmm…I’m thinking about it…  Perhaps it’s the anticipation of some “respite” during the upcoming holidays!!

The Good – The USA-Chinese economic agreement that will preclude further challenges on each side toward the other. We are connected and it will not be going away. 

The Bad – The ongoing government shutdown in the US.

The Ugly – The continuing divide among the Republicans and Democrats in the USA which seems to be infecting other nations with an ineffective approach toward governance. 

The Sad – On October 8, 2025 a notice came through that Saul Zabar had passed away at the age of 97. He as a stalwart presence in Manhattan – especially on the Upper West Side – where he served as the principal owner and “presence” at Zabar’s, THE emporium that I frequented virtually every Sunday of my residency dates in NYC. For those who may have never heard of it, Zabar’s was an iconic store that served all manner of coffee, smoked fish, cheeses and earthy breads. AND, it was just down the street from H&H Bagels. It was food that not only encouraged but sustained survival. While Zabar’s will no doubt continue as the “go to” site for Sunday morning sustenance, Saul will be missed.
