Bringing Us Together – I’m not exactly sure how it happened but National Public Radio (NPR) sent me an email about a new initiative, One Small Step [check it out]. It’s an effort to connect people with different perspectives and positions on various issues and who reside in the same geographic areas for a conversation. The One Small Step crew identifies individuals who have entirely different viewpoints but also have some strong commonalities in their background. The purpose is to engage them in a facilitated dialogue for the purpose of identifying the common threads. So, I signed up and the One Small Step team is looking for someone to match me up with for a dialogue, debate and/or discussion. I’ll report back when I get the results…

What Does The Farmer Say? – I couldn’t resist passing this one along. One of the best online video discoveries I’ve seen in recent weeks comes from my Associate Editor who forwarded the piece, “What Does The Farmer Say? It’s a musical piece done in a rap style. You can also go to YouTube.com and type in “The Peterson Brothers”. I don’t know much about them except that they appear to live in western Kansas, clearly are showing the Midwestern spirit and have captured the essence of life growing up on the farm. With their success in attracting an audience, they’ve even added sponsors of late whose products are now highlighted as part of the songs. And, for a former Midwestern farm kid – they capture the essence of farming in the Great Flyover.
